In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, join us for a free virtual webinar presented by AARP that highlights the inspiring story of Virginia Wing, a pioneering Chinese American actress, singer, and first woman of color to compete in the Miss Mississippi beauty pageant.

🗓️ Webinar: Virginia Wing – A Trailblazing Journey

📅 Date: Thursday, May 29, 2025
🕒 Time: 3:00 PM Central Time
📍 Location: Online (Free Registration)

This special AAPI Heritage Month event will feature an exclusive conversation with Virginia Wing, who broke racial and gender barriers in the entertainment industry. Born and raised in Marks, Mississippi, Virginia continually challenged cultural stereotypes and ageism to build a enduring career on stage and screen.

Now in her late 80s and still actively working, Virginia continues to inspire as one of the few Asian American women from the Deep South to gain national recognition. She’ll be joined by Larissa Lam, director of the upcoming documentary Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wing?, for a meaningful discussion on:

  • Growing up Asian American in the segregated American South
  • Challenging stereotypes in Hollywood and beyond
  • The importance of authentic representation in media
  • Overcoming ageism as an older Asian American woman in entertainment

🎙️ Why You Should Attend

This live webinar is a must-see for anyone interested in AAPI history, diversity in entertainment, and the untold stories of Asian Americans in the South. It’s also a powerful conversation about resilience, identity, and legacy.
